Individual Counseling
I provide individual counseling for anxiety, trauma, depression,
stress, panic, anger and aggression, and relationship difficulties.
Couples Counseling
As a couples counselor, I use a collaborative method based on John Gottman's
7
Principles for Making Marriage Work, and Dan Wile's Collaborative Couples Therapy (http://www.danwile.com). My approach helps couples move from being adversaries and/or strangers to collaborators and confidantes.
Anger Management
Anger is a natural emotion that serves the purpose of getting you
ready to act when you feel attacked. It becomes a problem when
you feel attacked all the time and let your angry reactions become a
habit. I can help you resolve anger that is creating
trouble in your
relationship. I will help you use a combination of
self-observation, skill building, and mindfulness, to create
new ways to respond to stress and provocation.
Minding Anger Counseling Group
In this variation on traditional anger management groups, we are
utilizing principles of mindfulness, meditation, cognitive behavioral
therapy, anger management, and Ki-Aikido concepts to help participants
rise above unhealthy mental/emotional states.
This
weekly counseling group provides support to men, while they grapple
with changing the way they express their anger. This group
would also be helpful for depression, which often shows in men as
overwork, alcohol and drug problems and anger.
Trauma
I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a proven
method for resolving self-limiting beliefs, anxiety, depression, and
self-defeating behavior that results from a traumatic event. For more
information on this treatment, please visit the EMDR website.
Creating Peak Performance
I draw from principles of Ki-Aikido, EMDR and visualization to
help you rise above self-imposed limitations and realize your full
potential in your career, school, and/or sports.
Domestic Violence Intervention and Assessment
I have extensive experience in domestic violence counseling, having
worked with domestic violence offenders and victims since 1991. If you
are unsure whether you are in an abusive relationship, I can help with
domestic violence assessment and treatment.
From 1995 to 2005, I created and directed the Family Treatment and Violence Intervention Program
in cooperation with the Multnomah County Community Justice Department.
